Hi Keith.. thanks for your comment!

You're absolutely correct in your assessment - my past experience with Symantec was very similar to yours. With this latest version Symantec seems to have taken care of the speed issues.. and it seems to be much faster than McAfee was. There's still some bloat to the software - once it comes up you'll notice that it makes a lot of decisions for itself about turning on firewall, browser toolbars and the like. Power users will certainly want to spend some time to turn those things off.

I still really like AVG.. some don't. I'm glad to see this alternative available for those that want it.

I was a Chief Information Officer and dumped Symantec. We had Symantec's AntiVirus Corporate Edition - It took over & conflicted with everything! Ever since Symantec merged with Veritas thay have gone down hill. We were a gold level support customer. I spent hours on the phone, being transferred from one person to another, answering the same questions over & over. The software did things they didn't tell you about, forget about self help info & then try uninstalling it. It took me 3 months to completely purge all of it's crap from our servers & PC's registry! I switch to Microsoft Forefront Protection Suite. P.S. Symantec's products for home PC's, bring them to their knees. Not to mention with every sneaky auto-upgrade they add more crap and take control of more processes. Also a nightmare to uninstall!!
